What we look for: Clear labeling, dedicated sections for specific sports and teams (local favorites, player-specific hot spots), separation of vintage vs. modern, a dedicated non-sports/collectibles area, and a clean, clutter-free environment.
Selection & Inventory
Whether you’re hunting for a high-end grail or just want to rip some cheap wax, a shop's inventory needs to deliver. We look at the depth of what’s actually available in the cases and on the shelves. What we look for: A strong mix of high-end singles, graded cards, sports memorabilia, and sealed product. We also look at the health of their budget options, evaluating the variety and fairness of their value and dollar bins.
Spacing & Layout
The physical environment matters. A card shop shouldn't just be a retail store; it should feel like a hub for the community. We evaluate how the shop utilizes its square footage for the customer experience. What we look for: Comfortable foot traffic flow, optimal use of space, and—most importantly—dedicated room for collectors to sit down, hang out, and comfortably grind through value bins without feeling cramped or rushed.
Customer Service & Pricing
At the end of the day, the hobby is driven by the people in it. This grade reflects how the staff treats collectors on both sides of the counter, from pricing transparency to trade friendliness. What we look for: Polite, approachable, and transparent staff. We look at how realistic their initial sticker prices are and how willing they are to negotiate. Crucially, we judge how receptive they are to buying or trading cards from walk-ins—valuing an easy, fair back-and-forth over an old-school, 'my way or the highway' attitude.

MP Sports Cards hits it out of the park here. Everything in the mid-tier range is neatly separated by sport, and within those sports, the cards are perfectly organized alphabetically. It makes targeted player or team hunting incredibly easy. The overall shop layout is clean, streamlined, and very user-friendly, earning them a solid A in this category.

A Modern Collector's Dream (with a Twist)
As an authorized Topps and PSA affiliated dealer, their supply of sealed product is elite. They carry a massive variety of everything new hitting the market, covering not only major sports but a great selection of non-sports and gaming too. The value bins are an absolute dream—featuring an abundance of $0.25 cards that are actually worth digging through. This earns them a strong A-.
Modern Focus & Online Presence
The reason for the A- comes down to a couple of specific inventory choices. First, their stock is heavily focused on modern cards; you aren't going to find a deep or highly diverse selection of 90s inserts or classic vintage cards here. Second, because they operate a very large eBay store on the side, a lot of their premium stock is constantly moving online. They don’t always keep their premier, top-tier singles out on the physical shop floor, so if you are only stopping in for a single visit, you might miss out on seeing their absolute highest-end inventory in the display cases.

At absolutely no additional cost, they will sit down with you and evaluate your raw cards before making a submission. They look at it from both a financial perspective and a condition perspective to help you decide if a card is truly worth grading. In fact, they’ve openly suggested against grading certain cards of ours to save us money—meaning they literally chose our benefit over making a buck for themselves. That level of transparency is incredibly rare and commendable within the hobby.
