Episode 10 of Wicked Good Pulls is officially live! This week, we are diving deep into Whatnot selling strategies, hacking the almighty “algo,” and quite possibly the worst branding mistake in the history of sports card streaming.
The “Retro Ropping” Scandal
If you have been trying to find Mike’s stream on Whatnot and coming up empty, there is a hilarious, completely self-inflicted reason why. It turns out that Mike’s intended handle, “Retro Ripping,” was aggressively misspelled. Instead of sounding like a nostalgic card breaker, his account was registered as “Retro Ropping,” making him sound like a guy you should definitely avoid in a dark alley.
Quality Over Quantity & Giveaways
Mike is officially shifting his streaming strategy. Instead of going live constantly, he is pulling back to 2-3 Saturdays a month to focus on acquiring better cards (specifically Jordans, Kobes, and Iversons) and planning higher-quality shows. To keep the followers rolling in while streaming less, he is finally embracing giveaways. His master plan? Run a giveaway every 30 minutes, and if the room hits 30 or 40 viewers, swap out the base Jordan prize for a higher-end $10 insert. Matt, naturally, is skeptical that this will bring in quality buyers, suggesting $1 or $2 starting bids instead.
Craigslist, Cologne, and Elderly Communities
While Mike is optimizing his online presence, Matt is ready to take it to the streets to increase his margins. He is advocating for Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and yard sales. His recent triumph? Meeting an elderly man in a retirement community to score 57 Michael Jordan cards for a flat $100. Meanwhile, Matt’s kids are apparently using their reselling skills to flip random household items on their eBay page, including bottles of cologne.
The Next Generation of Hustlers
The real highlight of the week might be the WGP kids stepping up their game. Grant unearthed a four-year-old stash of Pokemon cards, fired up a spreadsheet, and discovered he is sitting on over $500 in eBay comps. Meanwhile, Matt’s oldest son took a $300 investment and quickly flipped it into a $450 return across a few card shows. The spreadsheet tracking skills alone brought tears of joy to their dads’ eyes.
Tune into the full episode to hear us mercilessly roast Mike’s spelling skills and debate the future of the WGP empire (which now officially includes a giant, custom-printed Wicked Good Pulls mousepad)!
