The boys are back from Florida! While the sunshine was great, the real highlights were the sports card acquisitions.
Florida Card Shops & Happy Hour Whatnot
Matt hit up East West Collectibles in Naples to snag some raw football cards, preparing for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Mike discovered a highly dangerous new strategy in Bradenton: “Happy Hour Whatnot”. By combining discounted happy hour drinks with live card auctions on his phone, he admits he went a little irresponsible on his spending.
Stream Strategies: Audience Growth & Bulk Subs
Mike has shifted his entire Whatnot philosophy. Instead of focusing purely on profit per card, he is putting his earnings back into better inventory to consistently grow his audience and break even. To stand out, Matt is focusing on highly themed shows, preparing inventory for an All-Holo stream, a Slam card showcase, and a Lakers vs. Celtics night.
Matt is also prepping for the NFL season with a bulk PSA submission. He and his kids are submitting around 20 raw cards through their local card shop in Carver, investing roughly $400 with the goal of 3x-ing their return.
The Wickedest Pull of the Week
We launched a brand new segment this week, comparing our best recent acquisitions.
Mike’s Pick: An incredibly crisp Metal Kobe Bryant rookie card. It’s so remarkably clean that he is considering sending it off for grading instead of throwing it straight into a stream.
Matt’s Pick: A Jayden Daniels Select numbered rookie card. Bought raw for around $70, they are hoping to grade it high and capitalize on an NFL season value spike.
Daily “Grying” & 90s Bedroom Paint
In non-hobby news, Mike has taken Jimmy Valvano’s speech advice a little too literally and tries to get emotionally moved to tears (“grying”—crying without tears) once a day. His current go-to trigger? The season two finale of the show Dave.
We also take a chaotic trip down memory lane to our childhood bedrooms. We debate the artistic merits of Joe’s iconic splat-painted walls, Matt’s bizarre choice to sponge-paint a single gray triangle on each wall, and Mike getting stuck with leftover white paint and green trim.
